As you know, Facebook is the most famous social networking site in the world today and Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of Facebook. The Facebook website was originally called thefacebook.com and was launched on January 2004. According to Zukerberg’s statement in the article in The Harvard Crimson that he was inspired to make Facebook from his earlier website Facemashthe Facebook’s predecessor.
Story behind Facebook
Zukerberg started thinking to create a website that can connect all students in the university. Zukerberg’s friend Moskovitz said when Zukerberg completed the website, he told some of his friends about that, one of them suggested putting it on the Kirkland online mailing list, within 24 hours they got around fifteen hundred registrations. Day by day, registration to Facebook increased, Facebook expanded its user base to Stanford-California, Columbia-South America, and Yale-US. As the company expanding, in 2005, they purchased the domain name called facebook.com for $200,000, dropping ‘the’ from it.
On October 1st 2005, Facebook expanded to more than 21 universities in the UK and other countries in the world. Facebook launched its high school version in the September month of 2015. Later, Facebook allowed employees of several major companies including Microsoft and Apple to become user of Facebook. In 2007, Facebook had 100,000 business pages, helping businesses to attract customers.
Facebook became the largest online photo host website in February 2011 in the world. And Zukarberg expected 100 million of photos to be added in Facebook at the end of 2011. According to Facebook, over 350 millions of people accessed facebook through the mobile phone as of October 2011.

Challenges Facebook Faced

Facebook was alleged by Yahoo on 12th March 2012 in US federal Court before Facebook public offering. Yahoo told that Facebook had violated yahoo’s patents which involve control of privacy, social networking, and covering advertising etc.  Patents of Yahoo covers social networking basics ideas like customizing the website for user experience. In the same year Facebook application centre which is an online mobile store was rolled out.
Facebook’s Acquisition
On February 19, 2014, Facebook announced that they are buying WhatsApp for $19 billion. Jan Koum and Brian Acton are the founder of WhatsApp and they became billionaires once they sell the company to facebook. Now WhatsApp is one of the most valuable apps in Europe, South America, Asia and it has more than 600 million active users today.
On Wednesday, 2015, Facebook CEO Mark Zukerberg announced the birth of his child, Mark Zukerberg and his wife pledged to give away 99% of his company shares that is worth of USD 45 billion to charity.
Facebook App
The Facebook users’ number got tremendously increased with the introduction of Facebook App. As of January 2015, there were around 745 million people accessing Facebook actively through mobile devices every day, including its app.
